Here at Poulsen® Roses, after years of dedicated plant breeding, we are proud to present a new, elegant and fragrant rose, Catharina Collet™.
The remarkable individual, Baroness Catharina Collet, besides her successful career as journalist, author, and occupational psychologist, is now the inspiration for a new addition to the PARAMOUNT® rose collection. The naming ceremony took place at the historic Lundbygaard Estate in South Zealand.
We at Poulsen Roser patiently test each new rose variety candidate for 8-10 years before it is given final approval. It is important that a new introduction checks all the boxes, healthy, disease resistant, lasting colour, continuous flowering, and of course good perfume. We know the parentage of each rose variety going back over 100 years. This history is well considered when we cross the varieties that are most likely to give us the result we want.
Each year, controlled cross pollination results in tens of thousands of seeds. Each seed, once germinated, is an entirely unique and genetically distinct rose plant. Roughly 10 percent of these seedlings pass through the evaluation process to receive a name and go to market. The trial process takes place outdoor in several climate zones around the world. This rigorous evaluation contest ensures that only the absolute best roses are sold to the public.
Some creations are used primarily as indoor floral items. Others are used outdoors in the garden and in pots for the patio. Behind the scene, Poulsen will also test each new variety for its adaptation to modern rose production. For today, it is routine to use robotics in multiplying the variety in propagation. Catharina Collet™ is one of these varieties that comes right through the eye of the needle, withstanding test of time. In addition to beauty and fragrance, this variety has a particular robustness we demand from our varieties.
The PARAMOUNT® collection is most fitting for this hard working, yet elegant new variety because the flowers are large, full-petaled and perfumed. The plants are vigorous yet moderately compact, making the variety suitable for growing in large pots or in terrace beds. Flowering is continuous, lasting from early summer until frost.
Please discover for yourself how to cultivate these qualities found in the new rose Catharina Collet™ PARAMOUNT® here.
